Love this last picture of this little girl in her get-up. Is that Grace Moore the operatic singer? That is one scantily clad gal! Another great birthday post
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures of Virginia Davis as little Alice. So adorable!
DeleteAnd, yes! THE Grace Moore! Such a beauty!
Dietrich? Garden of Allah? Not a silent film. Not a silent film actress. ?
ReplyDeleteYes, Marlene Dietrich. Yes, the picture is not from one of her silent films. I am aware that Garden of Allah is not a silent film.
DeleteHowever, Marlene did appear in a number of silent films early in her career and that is why she is included here.
that is probably the best picture of Evelyn Nesbit I have ever seen. Love her smile, naughty girl!
ReplyDeletePatty
How can you not love Evelyn?!
DeleteHi Jessica, Just a question about Grace Moore. Were there two ladies with that name, I've heard of the singer but there is also a former Ziegfeld showgirl named Grace Moore, do you know if they are one and the same or did the Ziegfeld lady also sing? I'm just wondering as I have a wonderful documentary called Showgirl stories, and they interview Grace Moore the Showgirl as a very old woman (she must be close to 100 at the time they filmed it) and they only mention her as a showgirl and not a singer. I'm trying to search on line to see if I can find out but so far no luck.
ReplyDeleteYour question really made me think about this because I had wondered the same thing too. If you look at pictures of the ZF Grace Moore and the singer, they really don't look a like. I would love to watch this documentary though and hear what she has to say!
DeleteThe hard part is that with the internet, pictures are circulated with the wrong name so often that separating truth and fiction can be difficult. I need to look into this more for sure.
Hi Jessica, I was able to download the small clip of Grace Moore showgirl from the video. Sorry about the sound it's very low. The best part is when she says Ziegfeld told her to raise her skirt, a little higher then jumped over the desk and pulled her skirt over her head!! She also talks about taking the car fare money the rich stage door johnnies gave them, usually a $100, take a cab for a block get out and take the subway home, she says "oh yeah we had all sorts of tricks"!!
